A teaching tape for SR-13, electron dynamics and force conventions

electron work and deflection

Teaching tape demonstrating mass coefficients, work, kinetic energy, and deflections for a relativistic electron.

Where it starts

The settings the tape begins from, under the constant set modern-si-2019. Values are the model's own, not the laboratory control's display: a radius of 5e-7 is half a micrometre.
SettingValue
Electric field X (electricFieldX)0
Electric field Y (electricFieldY)100000
Electric field Z (electricFieldZ)0
Magnetic field X (magneticFieldX)0
Magnetic field Y (magneticFieldY)0
Magnetic field Z (magneticFieldZ)0
Initial speed (v/c) (initialSpeed)0.6
Initial direction angle (initialDirectionDeg)0
Integration interval (integrationInterval)2e-9

What it changes, and what to expect

  1. Set Initial speed (v/c) (initialSpeed) to 0.6 changes what the run starts from

    electron-dynamics-0.6c

At 0.6c, the electron has gamma = 1.25, transverse mass 1.5625m in Einstein's 1905 convention and 1.25m in Planck's 1906 convention. Both conventions yield identical observable deflection radii.

These are the values the tape's author recorded, not a result this page computed. Nothing here runs the instrument. Open SR-13 with these settings: the link opens it with them already in place. Compare what it gives you with what is recorded here. The settings travel in the link and the laboratory reads them as it loads, so without JavaScript it opens at its worked example instead.
