[pp. 142–143]Wir haben in § 4 für die Abhängigkeit der Entropie der monochromatischen Strahlung vom Volumen den Ausdruck gefunden:Radiation entropyRadiation entropyRadiation energy in the bandSpectral constant BFrequency of the lightVolumeVolumeExplain this equation Schreibt man diese Formel in der Gestalt:Radiation entropyRadiation entropyGas constantAvogadro's numberVolumeVolumeRadiation energy in the bandSpectral constant BFrequency of the lightExplain this equation und vergleicht man sie mit der allgemeinen, das Boltzmannsche Prinzip ausdrückenden FormelRadiation entropyRadiation entropyGas constantAvogadro's numberProbability of the configurationExplain this equation so gelangt man zu folgendem Schluß:

In § 4 we found for the dependence of the entropy of monochromatic radiation on the volume the expression: Radiation entropyRadiation entropyRadiation energy in the bandSpectral constant BFrequency of the lightVolumeVolumeExplain this equation If one writes this formula in the form: Radiation entropyRadiation entropyGas constantAvogadro's numberVolumeVolumeRadiation energy in the bandSpectral constant BFrequency of the lightExplain this equation and compares it with the general formula expressing Boltzmann’s principle Radiation entropyRadiation entropyGas constantAvogadro's numberProbability of the configurationExplain this equation one arrives at the following conclusion:

[p. 143]Ist monochromatische Strahlung von der Frequenz und der Energie in das Volumen (durch spiegelnde Wände) eingeschlossen, so ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit dafür, daß sich in einem beliebig herausgegriffenen Zeitmoment die ganze Strahlungsenergie in dem Teilvolumen des Volumens befindet:Probability of the configurationVolumeVolumeAvogadro's numberGas constantRadiation energy in the bandSpectral constant BFrequency of the lightExplain this equation

If monochromatic radiation of frequency and energy is enclosed in the volume (by reflecting walls), the probability that at an arbitrarily chosen instant of time the whole radiation energy is in the partial volume of the volume is: Probability of the configurationVolumeVolumeAvogadro's numberGas constantRadiation energy in the bandSpectral constant BFrequency of the lightExplain this equation

[p. 143]Hieraus schließen wir weiter:

From this we further conclude:

[p. 143]Monochromatische Strahlung von geringer Dichte (innerhalb des Gültigkeitsbereiches der Wienschen Strahlungsformel) verhält sich in wärmetheoretischer Beziehung so, wie wenn sie aus voneinander unabhängigen Energiequanten von der Größe bestünde.
English
Monochromatic radiation of low density (within the range of validity of Wien’s radiation formula) behaves in thermal respects as if it consisted of mutually independent energy quanta of magnitude .
Deutsch
English
We shall also compare the mean magnitude of the energy quanta of “black radiation” with the mean vis viva of the center-of-mass motion of a molecule at the same temperature. The latter is , while for the mean magnitude of the energy quantum one obtains, on the basis of Wien’s formula: Spectral constant AFrequency of the lightSpectral constant BTemperature of the radiationAvogadro's numberGas constantExplain this equation

English
If, now, monochromatic radiation (of sufficiently small density) behaves, as regards the dependence of the entropy on the volume, like a discontinuous medium consisting of energy quanta of magnitude , it is natural to investigate whether the laws of the generation and transformation of light are also such as they would be if light consisted of energy quanta of this kind. We shall occupy ourselves with this question in what follows.
